Wow we did it! What a month it has been. Quit your jobs and go sailing! Ah all the free time we will have. The reality’s are quite different. Nina and I have probably worked the hardest we ever have in the last month. The packing of the house and selling the cars came down to, well the last minute. But we got it done! ✅ I think? I can’t really remember to tell you the truth.
We had an enjoyable flight to Greece, the boys are easy to travel with now on airplanes, it was a nice break before the real work began. We found the boat in good order, there was some concern about rodents of unusual size, ROUS’s, living in the bilge, but that proved to be false.
Sawyer had been going on for the last year about how much he missed pita Gyros. Nina and I were suspicious if he even remembered what they tasted like. There is a little taverna by the sea not too far from the boat yard. Sure enough he savored every bite!
We had a number of boat projects to complete before she went in the water. Trying to balance those jobs with the kids was a bit challenging but we persevered. The bottom was painted, solar installations completed and I can’t remember it all now but we were busy.
Unfortunately we spent 10 more days in the boatyard than expected waiting for a boat in front of us to be moved. They really pack the boats in tight in the winter.
We took advantage of the extra time to break up the work and visit a few of the local archeological sites. The boat yard is located only a few miles from the famed Corinth Canal. The area has quite the history that goes back over 2500 years. We also took two days to go visit the Oracle of Delphi and the temple of Apollo. The boys have read stories of the Oracles prophecies and of the importance of Delphi to Ancient Greece.
The boys became fast friends with another family in the boat yard with two kids. They were invited for an Easter egg hunt amongst the boats. There might still be a few chocolate eggs to be found by some unsuspecting boat owners.
Finally we were placed in the water on the 12th of April. After a few checks to confirm i had not created any leaks with the work i had done, we were free and out sailing adventures could begin!
So glad you are having fun. Miss my friends. Great pictures. xxxoox
